The Joys of Home Ownership

Welcome to the wonderful world of home ownership… Last Monday both the clutch and transmission went out in my washer. Not that it was a big deal since it was a freebie to begin with, but not something we were planning on. I guess we have a “home warranty” and its covered by it but the earliest they will fix it is this coming Thursday. So I have frequenting the local washateria, which I will admit I half enjoy going just to people watch (and there is a great kolache place across the street).

Saturday we had our first big scare after discovering mold in all of our upstairs units and vents. After several calls we finally figured out that its so humid here, mold will occur in the duct when the cold air hits the room temp air. So after a thrilling morning at the laundry mat, we spent the rest of the morning masked up bleaching out our vents and ductwork.

We had a new arrival in our family this week. Bruce - the kung-fu beta. Erin and I went to pet co one night when Jared was working the flight and she picked out her first pet. When we asked her what his name was she adamantly said “Bruce”. Which is pretty funny considering we don’t even know a Bruce. Erin takes good care of him, she is always worried that he is hungry and in turn she had fed him pancakes, pasta, chips, and a block of cheddar cheese. We are pretty surprised that he is still alive.

Tonight Jared and I ventured to the big garden center just about a mile from our house. Its pretty much the mega store of the garden shops….huge and no one seems to know their plants. But it was 70% off this week so I pick up a hibiscus, a passion vine, 2 ferns, and some concord grapes – not bad for under $20.00. Lowes also had their annuals on sale for .25 to .50 per plant. ya...cheap plants ;)
